Dude, any restaurant will replace a meal that's unsatisfactory — especially top grade beef — if you ask politely and haven't already given them just cause to label you a pest. That this didn't happen, and your admission that you had `a furious discussion` on your way out, suggests you were probably being a overbearing, insulting*well before the steak arrived. And they didn't want to `accpet` a lower tip? This statement alone is proof that you're completely unclear on the concept, and likely have no clue how to behave in a restaurant. I was at Gallagher's in 1990 and I remember great steaks and a nice environment. But things change! I've been there in Aug '05. I ordered a Porterhouse, mid rare. I got a well done steak with a taste of frozen beef. I rised my concerns to the waiter and the answer is 'it is what it is'. At the check out time, I had a furious discussion with the waiter and with the manager who did not want to accept a lower tip because of the poor meal and service. If you want a good tasting steak and a pleasent environment in New York, do not go to Galalgher's! -- 8/30/2005 3:05:19 AM
